Note: As for female students in Figure 8.23, the idealised trajectories of mean learning status with age are virtually indistinguishable until about age 12 where the teacher assessments appear to assess the mean learning status of males slightly lower. This comment is based on the fitting of a polynomial curve fitted to the means by age (0.1 of a year of age), and is highly speculative. What actual data from test assessments might show is an open question. The top end of the curve, however, is also likely to be more poorly modelled in this case based on the processes and assumptions made (see full thesis). While not shown (but are shown in the full thesis) the Mathematics by Year level shows the same 'tails', independent of assessment process, confirming a high mutual-consistency in the assessments.
