These are test data only but illustrate the marked effect of age within cohort. (Further detail can be found in Chapter 5 where the phenomenon is shown to be universal, raising significant issues about getting all students to a single grade level standard. The trend for each Grade (Year level) cohort is shown. The gradient of the segment for each cohort increases and then reduces as age increases. This is consistent with an inflection point as included in a Gompertz model (See Figure 5.2).
